Ivy Jean (Philippines) asks,
What is your everyday routine at work?
Everyday is different. Depends if it’s a sea day, a port day, a formal night, etc. Depends also which ship you’re on. The job of a Cruise Ship Photographer includes setting up and breaking down studios, shooting portraits/dining room/gangway/events, working in the lab, selling at the photo gallery, etc.
So, for example, one day a photog might get up as early 7AM, be ready with his gear by 8AM when the ship docks to photograph people getting off the gangway for, say, 3 or 4 hours. Then he’ll have a few hours off, during which he can go out and be back onboard for his next duty, for example, studio set up at 3PM. Then depending on his schedule for the evening, he’ll be ready to shoot studio by 5:30PM, or be on duty at the Photo Gallery. It’s typical to work evenings till after 11PM, when the Photo Gallery closes and the studios close.
Expect to work over 10 hours on some days. Some days are easy. Again, it depends. Don’t worry, it’s not as crazy as it sounds. When you think about working and living on land, you spend a couple of hours extra commuting to and from work and that is tiring as well. It’s very doable. If I can do it, anyone can. 😉
