After doing My Solution to System UID Inconsistency and Mount Script Error which was a factory reset, the bluetooth on my Sony Xperia Z1 stopped working — when I try to turn it on, the switch just stays light blue then stays off.
Prior to that, my phone never could update from Kitkat version 4.4.4 to Lollipop version 5, probably due to my rooting the phone. Whenever I tried to update, it would appear to download and then say “Could not verify”. Not a big deal, I was actually quite content living with my rooted Kitkat.
But the bluetooth issue bugged me. Suddenly there was no Bluetooth in the list of APKs or apps.
So I decided to plug my phone to my computer and try the update via Sony PC Companion. It worked! My phone got upgraded to Lollipop and bluetooth functionality was restored, but…
As a result of updating, I lost root on my phone. Bummer 🙁
Of course, I still wanted to root my phone and searched the web for answers. Maybe I’m missing something, but it appears that the only way I could have a rooted phone was to install a completely new ROM — a pre-rooted recovery flashable custom ROM.
To make a long story short, my phone’s System Info says “Bootloader unlock allowed: No”. And there ends my quest to root my phone. 😛
