I’ve outgrown my old 320GB Maxtor OneTouch hard drive and got me a 1TB Adata HD710 external hard drive. It’s reasonably priced and is supposed to be waterproof, shockproof, high-speed and USB 2.0 backwards compatible.
As soon as I got it out of the box it was a disappointment. The rubber door covering the USB port was flippin’ n’ flappin’. After a bit of effort getting it in perfectly, I seemed to have succeeded. But no way I’m letting this thing get wet. 😛
So forget about the waterproof feature. It’s not vital. I thought it was a cool bonus though.
I really don’t want the hassle of taking it back to the store. It’s a design fail, in my opinion. I bet the other units are no different. Main thing is for it to be reliable storage.
So for my next contract, my 320GB drive gets to stay at home as I roam the world with my new 1TB Adata and my not-so-old 1TB Seagate Expansion.
I hope this Adata works and lasts as well as my old Maxtor and Seagate hard drives.
We shall see… 😎
